Denim Culture is….

A unique group that promotes and produces education and entertainment events through a public mentoring/education campaign. Denim Culture motivates girls, ages 8 through 16, to learn and build skills needed through the arts, academics, community service, and other activities to master physical, intellectual, and emotional challenges. The concept originated to encourage girls to express themselves creatively, with music and dance, in an interactive learning environment. Creative expression has been linked to the enhancement of reasoning skills, academic achievement and overall development. Denim Culture provides a forum for girls to experience other cultures and customs. The group entertains girls while enriching their minds. Since its launch in March 2002, "Denim Culture" has reached several girls with messages and information about growing up and reaching their full potential. Innovative researched-based informal education programs help girls confront subtle societal messages about their value and potential, and prepare them to lead successful, independent, and fulfilling lives. Major programs address English, math and science education, pregnancy and drug abuse prevention, media literacy, economic literacy, adolescent health, violence prevention, and sports participation. Denim Culture events and programs merge art and education to provide a fun and optimal learning experience.

Parents are key partners in "Denim Culture". Materials are provided to stimulate ideas and encourage activities for parents. By maintaining open lines of communication with their daughters, parents can be a source of strength and information when young people are faced with important decisions.
